Delloso announces $1.4 million grant for Tinicum Township project

RIDLEY PARK, Nov. 12 – State Rep. David Delloso announced $1.4 million in state funding has been secured for a construction project in Delaware County.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved the grant Tuesday through its Multimodal Transportation Fund Program. The grant will help fund a project to relocate a section of Tinicum Island Road at the Philadelphia International Airport in Tinicum Township.

“This construction project is just one small portion of a larger development project,” said Delloso, D-Delaware. “Our region is capable of being a hub for the entire Northeast, and this large development project will result in the expansion of air cargo facilities and ultimately, we hope, create a number of family-sustaining jobs in our district.”

This grant will help fund an effort to relocate a 1-mile stretch of Tinicum Island Road. The construction project is part of a total development project estimated at about $20.7 million.

The Philadelphia Division of Aviation will move the road to enable development of the 136-acre Henderson parcel into an air cargo usage area at the airport. Tinicum Island Road currently bisects the airport property, limiting development.

Multimodal Transportation Funds encourage economic development and ensure that safe and reliable transportation is available to residents of Pennsylvania. The CFA provides funding for a multitude of projects that help businesses succeed, including those focused on development, water quality, energy infrastructure and more.
