Donatucci condemns Delco officer’s social post

PHILADELPHIA, June 12 State Rep. Maria Donatucci, D-Phila./Delaware, said the following in response to a vitriolic social media post made by police officer Sgt. Robert “Skippy” Carroll.

“Police officers are sworn to protect the public. And there are many officers who are doing very good by this sworn duty and who are appreciated by the Delco community, residents and businesses alike,” Donatucci said. “That is why I am both angered and deeply disappointed by Sgt. Carroll taking to social media to express his thoughts in such a harmful, divisive and appalling way.

“The ongoing protests against police brutality and calls to reform our criminal justice system in a significant and meaningful way are necessary and justified in order to effect change. Heated statements like the one from Sgt. Carroll are not. They do harm to everyone, including his fellow officers who do not share his sentiment.

“I trust that the investigation into Sgt. Carroll’s comments will be thorough and that his reprimand, including whatever course of action is deemed necessary, be swift,” she said.
