Flynn announces $500,000 in state funding for Scranton School District
HARRISBURG, Dec. 4 – State Rep. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, today announced $500,000 in state education funding has been approved for the Scranton School District.
“This funding goes to the children in school districts that need more help,” Flynn said. “As I continue fighting for fair education funding, this money will benefit the students of the Scranton School District to give them more opportunities to succeed.”
The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Department of Education’s Empowerment funds, which was created in 2000 under the Education Empowerment Act. The funds are only distributed to school districts that are either in financial recovery or have a history of low-test performance.
The Scranton School District is currently undergoing a five-year long recovery plan to resolve its mounting financial problems.
