Pennsylvania Still Falling Short on Tobacco Control

Pennsylvania once again received failing grades from the American Lung Association for tobacco prevention and control. Smoking rates here remain well above the national average, and roughly 22,000 Pennsylvanians die each year from smoking-related illnesses.

That’s exactly why I continue to fight to close loopholes in Pennsylvania’s Clean Indoor Air Act. No one should have to sacrifice their health to earn a paycheck. Bartenders, casino dealers, and other workers deserve the same protections as office workers, and there is broad bipartisan agreement on that principle.

While federal rollbacks and funding cuts are making this work harder, they make state action even more urgent. I remain committed to strengthening our smoking ban, protecting workers, and reducing youth exposure to tobacco products that are designed to addict a new generation.
