Coverage for Doula Services in Pennsylvania
One year ago, from my post as majority chair of the House Health Committee, I helped usher through a bill that would extend Medicaid coverage to doula services in Pennsylvania. My friend, Rep. Morgan Cephas, introduced the legislation as part of the Pennsylvania Black Maternal Health Caucus’s commitment to making pregnancy and childbirth safer and addressing unacceptably high mortality rates for moms of color in our state.
I am very proud to report that the Department of Human Services shared with me that there are now 155 unique doulas serving medical assistance beneficiaries at 240 locations in our commonwealth.
This is one of many vital steps we are taking to protect and strengthen reproductive healthcare in Pennsylvania — even as the Trump administration moves to restrict access at the federal level. I will keep building on this work, because everyone seeking medical care in our commonwealth deserves to be seen, supported, and safe.

Join Neighbors to Remove Invasive Plants in Frick
Saturday, April 4, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. | Lower Frick Park Play Area
Join UpstreamPgh and the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy for a hands-on volunteer event to remove invasive plants and restore native habitat in Frick Park. Participants will help tackle garlic mustard and the emerging incised fumewort, both of which crowd out native species in early spring.
After removing invasives, volunteers will help plant native flowers to support a healthier ecosystem. This is a great opportunity to spend time outdoors while making a meaningful impact in one of Pittsburgh’s parks.

Stop the Scam: A Community Conversation on Online Fraud, AI, and Accountability

Stuffed Animal Sleepover Storytime

Drop in for a special Stuffed Animal Sleepover Storytime at the library. Earlier in the week, children can drop off a favorite stuffed animal, then return on Saturday to hear all about their overnight adventures and pick them up. This program is designed for children from birth through elementary school and offers a fun, imaginative way to engage with reading and storytelling.

Applications Now Open: Learn and Earn Teen Summer Jobs Program

Applications are open for the Learn and Earn Summer Youth Employment Program, which places Pittsburgh-area young people ages 14–23 in paid jobs across the city. The program offers professional experience, career exposure, and employability skills alongside a paycheck. Youth Enrichment Services (YES) administers the program locally, incorporating leadership development and academic enrichment into the summer experience.
Spots are limited — interested applicants are encouraged to apply early.
