Frankel responds to Turzai comment comparing advocates for choice to 'Nazi Regime'

PITTSBURGH, April 1 – Today state Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, issued the following statement after a video appeared on social media in which Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Mike Turzai, R-Allegheny, compared advocates for a women’s right to choose to the “Nazi Regime:”

“At a time when we are seeing a resurgence in actual Nazi ideology, rooted in the same white supremacy that led to the extermination of 6 million Jews, I feel strongly that we should keep casual mentions of the “Nazi Regime” out of our good-faith policy debates.

“Rep. Turzai and I agree that every person deserves dignity and respect. That’s why we desperately need increased resources for families who do the important work of taking care of children with disabilities. That’s why we need the Fairness Act, so that all humans can feel protected by their state government. That’s why it’s incomprehensible that the majority party just voted to eliminate general assistance funding, which provided a small bit of help for the neediest of our neighbors.”
