Frankel: Security grants available to help religious, nonprofit organizations

Grant awards can range from $5,000 to $150,000

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 17 – State Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, today announced the availability of $5 million in funding for security enhancement projects for nonprofit organizations serving diverse communities, including religious organizations.

“Tragically I know only too well how important this program could be for a nonprofit or religious organization,” Frankel said. “In times of rising extremism, which too often erupts into violence against a group or individual, we cannot do too much to ensure the safety of all of our fellow Pennsylvanians. I am thankful for this grant program and want to make sure that organizations in our area know about them -- and apply for them as necessary.”

Administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, the Nonprofit Security Grant Fund Program was part of Act 83 of 2019, which directs PCCD to administer grants to nonprofit organizations that principally serve individuals, groups or institutions that are included within a bias motivation category for single bias hate crime incidents as identified by the FBI’s 2017 Hate Crime Statistics publication
