Frankel applauds over $872,000 in state grants for local pedestrian safety projects

PITTSBURGH, Jan. 20 – State Rep. Dan Frankel, D-Allegheny, announced today that three projects in the 23rd Legislative District were awarded more than $872,000 in state funding to support pedestrian safety.

“Maintaining sidewalks isn’t easy or cheap in our climate, but it’s crucial to ensuring that pedestrians can safely access all that our communities have to offer,” Frankel said. “This state funding will be well spent, helping to connect people, neighborhoods and organizations.”

Frankel said the grants were awarded to:

  • Carnegie Mellon University - $262,200 to renovate sidewalk segments of the Forbes Avenue Bridge.
  • Tree of Life - $56,106 to reconstruct a pedestrian walkway along 5898 Wilkins Ave.
  • Walnut Capital-McKee L.P. - $553,809 for safety and streetscape improvements at the Louisa Street steps.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority awarded the grants through the Multimodal Transportation Fund. The MTF provides funding to encourage economic development and ensure a safe and reliable system of transportation is available to the residents of the commonwealth.
