Gainey releases statement on death of Pittsburgh Police officer

PITTSBURGH, July 17 – State Rep. Ed Gainey, D-Allegheny, today expressed his sorrow and condolences for the family and friends of a Pittsburgh Police officer who died Wednesday after being shot over the weekend while off duty in Homewood.

Early indications are that the officer, Calvin Hall, a two-year veteran with the Pittsburgh Police, may have been shot while trying to break up a fight.

“It was terrible to hear of the loss of Officer Calvin Hall, who has sadly given his life in service to the public,” Gainey said. “I pray for his family and friends, and hope they find strength in his memory and deeds.

“While we cannot possibly imagine the heartache they are going through, we can all recognize and respect the tragic nature of this situation, and mourn the loss of a good officer, one who by all accounts was an excellent example of public service and the positive role police can have on a community,” he concluded.
