$1 million in tax credits awarded to residential and neighborhood revitalization projects in Philadelphia’s Lower Northeast

PHILADELPHIA, Dec. 17 – State Rep. Jose Giral today announced that just over $1 million has been awarded to revitalization projects throughout the 180th Legislative District.

The 180th District encompasses several Philadelphia neighborhoods that face higher rates of poverty and unemployment, along with limited resources and investment. Giral said the tax credits will support ongoing community development projects and create opportunities for new initiatives aimed at enhancing affordable housing, public safety, childhood health, and multilingual services.

“My district is home to vibrant, hardworking communities that deserve to see the state invest in their growth and success,” said Giral. “These tax credits give our partners the resources to lay a foundation for progress that is both forward-looking and mindful of the realities our residents face.”

The following projects received tax credits:

  • $213,750 to HACE’s neighborhood reinvestment plan for the Fairhill & St. Hugh neighborhoods.
  • $65,000 to Kensington Corridor Trust to enhance walkability, safety, and community wellbeing along the 3200-3500 blocks of Kensington Avenue.
  • $332,500 to Nueva Esperanza Inc. to advance a community land trust permanently entrusting affordable rental housing in Hunting Park.
  • $45,000 to Nueva Esperanza Inc. to renovate and transfer two housing units to the Stable Affordable Rental Trust.
  • $142,200 to Playworks Pennsylvania to fund daily physical activity for 1,200 students in four Philadelphia elementary schools.
  • $190,000 to Impact Services to advance the Heart of Kensington Collective Impact Plan.
  • $67,500 to Ceiba Inc. to bring multilingual free tax prep, housing counseling, weatherization programs, and support services to residents.

The Department of Community and Economic Development approved the tax credits through the Neighborhood Assistance Program to support low-income residents and revitalize distressed areas across Pennsylvania communities.
