Rep. Jose Giral October 15, 2026 | 2:22 PM
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 15 – State Rep. Jose Giral, D-Phila., today announced a $250,000 grant from the Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which is administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
According to Giral, the grant was awarded to the Philadelphia City Treasurer Managing Director’s Office to rehabilitate and further develop the McVeigh Recreation Center in Kensington.
“The closure of the McVeigh Rec Center was a loss for our community, even though it came with the promise of a better, more community-focused rebuild,” Giral said. “I know our community has missed having full access of the center. This grant will allow the city to continue the work needed to bring it fully back to life.”
The $250,000 will be used to renovate the baseball field, construct an internal loop and pedestrian walkways, install fitness equipment, make it ADA-accessible, and improve landscaping, signage, stormwater management and more.
