Hill-Evans highlights events for residents

HARRISBURG, July 7 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York, is excited to announce upcoming events within the 95th Legislative District. The events will run from later this month through the early fall.

“Being able to engage with our community again during in-person events shows how much progress we have made both locally and nationally in our fight against COVID-19. I am thrilled to once again offer these community-driven experiences as we emerge from the darkness of the pandemic into the light of a better, more positive future for our society,” Hill-Evans said. “We certainly will have a newfound appreciation for having the opportunity to become more involved citizens and will not take our neighbors camaraderie for granted.”

To kick off the event season, Hill-Evans will host a gun safety workshop from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 22. The workshop will be held in the Reliance Fire Hall at the West York Borough Fire Department, 1341 W. Market St. York, PA 17404. The workshop will feature local and state law enforcement along with legal experts.

From 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 10, Hill-Evans will hold a workshop on the steps for forming and growing a nonprofit. The workshop will be held at the Grotto Community Center located at 2 W. Market St., 2nd Floor, York, PA 17401. An expert panel will accompany Hill-Evans, and the topics for discussion will include filing paperwork correctly, reporting requirements and organizational structure, and strategies for networking, recruiting volunteers, marketing and financial best practices.

From 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Aug. 11, Hill-Evans will host a senior fair at the White Rose Senior Center located at 27 S. Broad St. York, PA 17403. The event will include vendors from across the community to provide information on senior services. The event will take place outdoors and the rain date is scheduled for August 18.

From 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Aug. 16 in the Veranda Room at the York State Fair, Hill-Evans will be hosting a House Democratic Policy Committee hearing on veterans issues and support, and legislation Hill-Evans has introduced to assist veterans and their families.

From noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, Hill-Evans will join the city of York’s York United Back to School Resource Fair at Penn Park. From now until the event, donations for students will be collected at Hill-Evans’ district office located at 53 E. North St., Suite 3, York, PA 17401. Items will be distributed by the city of York at the event. Hill-Evans and her staff will be at the fair with state resources for young people and their families.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, Hill-Evans will host two events during First Friday September in the Beaver Street Merchant District. The first event will be an Emergency Preparedness Month fair that will include state, county and local service providers and preparedness organizations. This event will be coupled with a panel on careers in the field of criminal justice for women. This event will include a panel of women from across criminal justice fields and will help provide career guidance, along with briefings on pending criminal justice reform legislation. The criminal justice panel will begin at 6 p.m. at the School District of the City of York administration building located at 31 N. Pershing Ave., York, PA 17401.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, Hill-Evans will host a free shredding event at the Spring Garden Township Municipal Building, 340 Tri Hill Road, York, PA 17403. Residents should bring documents they no longer need that contain personal information.

During shredding event, Hill-Evans will be collecting for a Diaper Drive occurring during the entire month of September. Collections can also be dropped off during regular business hours at the following two locations: Hill-Evans’s district office located at 53 E. North St., Suite 3, York, PA 17401, or Stauffer Biscuit Co. located at 360 S. Belmont St., York, PA 17403.
