Hill-Evans secures more than $1 million for local projects
YORK, Sept. 16 – State Rep. Carol Hill-Evans, D-York, announced today that five projects in her legislative district have been awarded a combined $1,054,378 in state funding through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Local Share Account Statewide program.
The grants will support projects that enhance public spaces, improve local infrastructure and street maintenance, strengthen emergency response capabilities, purchase vehicles needed to transport local food supply items, and address property maintenance to facilities where housing and supportive services are located.
“These investments are going to make a tangible difference for the people in my district and across the county,” said Hill-Evans, chair of the House State Government Committee. “Whether it’s helping our first responders replace outdated equipment or supporting organizations that serve our neighbors, these grants are putting state dollars to work where they are needed most. I’m proud to have played a part in bringing these investments home.”
The projects receiving state funding are:
- West York Borough Streetscape Improvement Project — $129,378: This funding will be directed towards the installation of Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at the intersection of West Market and Adams streets, the construction of a crosswalk, two ADA-curb ramps and 256 square feet of new sidewalk along North Clinton and Orange streets, and the construction of ADA-compliant curb ramps along Overbrook Avenue and St. Paul Alley.? These improvements will improve visibility, safety, and accessibility for pedestrians. ?
- Infrastructure to Sustain Essential Housing Support Services in York— $300,000: These funds will be used to install a new air-cooled chiller and associated piping valves and controls for Bell Socialization Services’ headquarters building located in the city of York. If the cooling system is not replaced, the building will become uninhabitable and place Bell's housing and supportive services at risk.
- Family First Health Corporation HVAC project— $125,000: This grant will be used for the replacement of existing HVAC Rooftop Units at Family First Health's facility in the city of York. The project will include the removal of the 10 existing HVAC rooftop units and the installation of 10 new RTUs, and associated piping and wiring. The existing units are nearly 25 years old and approaching the end of their useful life.
- York County Food Bank Transport Vehicles— $50,000: These funds will be used to purchase a box truck and cargo van for the York County Food Bank. These new vehicles will ensure reliable transportation of donated and purchased food to the Market @ Princess Street facility
- YAUFR Portable Radio Replacement — $450,000: This grant funding will be used to purchase portable radio equipment for use in Manchester, Spring Garden and Springettsbury townships in York County.?The portable radio equipment that York Area United Fire and Rescue currently utilizes is used by all employees and will reach the end of its service life and parts availability in 2026.
“Strong communities depend on reliable emergency services, safe infrastructure and community organizations that have the resources to serve their neighbors,” Hill-Evans said. “These projects address those needs, and I’m excited to watch the impact of these funds uplift our community in the coming months.”
All the projects have been funded through the statewide Local Share Account Program, which was established as an amendment to the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The program allows for the distribution of gaming revenues through the Commonwealth Financing Authority to support projects in the public interest throughout Pennsylvania.
