Hohenstein: More than $1.5M awarded to community projects

State investments will help improve job training, preserve historic landmark

PHILADELPHIA, July 17 – More than $1.5 million in state funding is being awarded to three local organizations to help improve job training, preserve a local landmark and promote fishing, state Rep. Joe Hohenstein, D-Phila, said today.

The local projects awarded include:

  • Huntingdon Bank Building ($1 million) – to rehabilitate the historic building to meet contemporary commercial needs while preserving its architectural integrity.
  • Liguori Academy ($500,000) – for renovations to accommodate a building-trades learning center that will feature three distinct areas for youth to participate in hands-on training as well as accessibility improvements to the building, including a new elevator.
  • Riverfront North Partnership ($12,900) – to help fund free Learn to Fish events, Fish Fest, and 25 summer camp programs at local recreation centers.

“These grants come on the heels of our passage of a responsible state budget that continues to invest in our communities and neighborhoods. Whether its funding for schools, recreation or helping a historic landmark reopen for commercial businesses, each of these grants is a step forward for our community that I am happy to support,” Hohenstein said. “I want to congratulate all of these organizations and the individuals involved for their hard work in securing these funds and moving these projects forward.”
