Howard announces more than $1.5 million in funding
Low-interest loan will help with water infrastructure project

MALVERN, July 15 – State Rep. Kristine Howard, D-Chester, announced today that $1.57 million of funding provided by Pennvest will go toward water infrastructure improvements.
"Water is critical to a healthy life,” Howard said. “Thanks to this funding, the people of the 167th Legislative District will see great improvements to their water quality without seeing a rise in their rates. An investment in our infrastructure is an investment in our future. By installing smart and safe water systems now, we can ensure a healthy future for generations of residents in Southeast Pennsylvania."
Specifically, the low-interest loan will fund the installation of one train (two filter vessels) of anion exchange resin with pre-filtration, and replacement of the well pump. The treatment vessels will be placed outside with valve hotbox and heat tracing for piping. Additionally, required electrical and site improvements will be made to integrate the treatment system into the existing well facility, along with the implementation of additional instrumentation and controls.
The improvements from this project will reduce the levels of PFAS and PFOS in the water, toxic substances that are often called “forever chemicals,” and are known to cause increased cholesterol levels, thyroid problems, fetal development issues, and weakened immune systems, to name but a few health problems. The existing Hollow Run Well system serves 975 households. Customers will not see a rise in rates due to this project.
Pennvest specializes in funding sewer, storm water and drinking water projects across Pennsylvania. Pennvest’s low-cost financial assistance helps make the water that is consumed every day by thousands of Pennsylvanians safe to drink.
The project is anticipated to begin in October.
