Mullins announces nearly $800,000 in funding for several projects throughout the Mid and Upper Valley

HARRISBURG, May 22 – State Rep. Kyle Mullins, D-Lackawanna, along with Sens. Marty Flynn and Rosemary Brown, today announced the distribution of Local Share Account grants throughout the 112th House District, which spans from Dunmore to Carbondale and its surrounding municipalities.

The Commonwealth Financing Authority approved $793,747 in grant funding for projects that will enhance and improve the communities served by Mullins.

“Our residents deserve these continued investments that increase their sense of pride and safety in their community,” said Mullins. “From improving public safety to supporting our veterans, these projects undoubtedly improve the region we call home; and I’m committed to continue fighting for such investments in our community.”

Mullins said the grants include:

  • $144,000 for the purchase of a new Bearcat Vehicle for use by the Lackawanna County SWAT Team.
  • $69,240 for exterior improvements to the Dunmore Borough Building including replacement of the sidewalk/concrete pad and landscaping.
  • $112,000 for the engineering and construction of a garage for the Jefferson Township Police Department that will provide adequate protection for officers and their equipment.
  • $230,000 for the American Legion Post 869 in Archbald for an addition that will provide space for veterans events, community meetings, and other events.
  • $140,006 for parking lot renovations at St. Anthony’s Memorial Park in Dunmore.
  • $45,000 for the Simpson VFW Walter Paciga Post 4712 in Fell Township for expansion and renovation of the facility.
  • $53,501 for renovations to the Jermyn Historical Society including electrical and HVAC upgrades, along with paving of its parking lot.

The Local Share Account funds from casinos located in host or contiguous counties are distributed by the Department of Community and Economic Development and are designed to support economic development, job training, community improvement and public interest projects.
