Burns encourages local college-bound students to apply for PA House Scholarship

JOHNSTOWN, Jan. 16 — State Rep. Frank Burns, D-Cambria, is encouraging local college-bound students to apply for the annual Pennsylvania House of Representatives Scholarship program.

The four-year scholarship is awarded annually to two Pennsylvania students preparing for post-secondary education. The scholarship is the value of one semester of tuition at a State System of Higher Education school for each of the four years.

“Paying for college is a challenge,” Burns said. “This scholarship can help make it a reality. I’m always hopeful one of the winners will be from Cambria County because we have a lot of deserving students, and one of the first winners of this scholarship came from our area.”

The program is open to graduating high school seniors who are Pennsylvania residents with plans to attend a Pennsylvania college, university or career school as a full-time student. Students must have attained a minimum 3.0 cumulative grade point average in high school to be eligible. Other factors taken into consideration are a student’s commitment to community, leadership qualities, extracurricular activities and financial need.

Details on how to apply are available online at https://www.tfec.org/scholarships-archive/pahr/. The deadline to apply is April 15.
