Chairman Harris and Rep. Young Host Community Budget Briefing

PHILADELPHIA, May 29House Appropriations Chairman Jordan Harris, D-Phila., and state Rep. Regina Young, D-Phila./Delaware, hosted a Community Budget Briefing Thursday alongside the Philadelphia House Delegation.

Harris and Young hosted the briefing for Philadelphians to learn about the budget process, understand how state funding decisions impact their communities, and voice their opinions on what should be included in the state budget.

“As legislators, we make it a priority to bring the state budget conversation directly into our communities,” said Harris. “This briefing gave residents an opportunity to hear what is being proposed and ask questions. Everyone came away with a better understanding of how the proposed budget will impact our neighborhoods. And I can’t emphasize enough how important it is for us to hear community feedback on what we should include and prioritize in the budget. My colleagues and I have a lot to take away from this briefing as we move through the budget process in session.”

“One of my passions as a legislator is informing people how their government works for them,” said Young. “This forum was a great opportunity for folks to learn not just about the process, but also to join the conversation to let us know how they think we ought to allocate money in the state budget. We’re fighting in Harrisburg to ensure that our neighbors back home can afford necessities like food, healthcare, and a roof over their head, and those priorities rang true in the discussion.”
