Rivera’s second BUS IT TO MARKET June 27 Event promotes quick, affordable RRTA bus trip, clean air

LANCASTER, June 11 – Building on the success of her May event promoting Red Rose Authority’s services, state Rep. Nikki Rivera, D-Lancaster, will lead a second “Bus it to Market” trip on Saturday, June 27, to Central Market in Lancaster to raise awareness of the region’s affordable bus transportation system.

“Residents on last month’s ‘Bus it to Market’ trip told me how much they enjoyed the ease and affordability of RRTA’s bus ride to Central Market,” Rivera said. “I’m leading a second ride so that more of our residents can experience for themselves how central Lancaster City’s eclectic mix of one-of-a-kind shops and creative restaurants is just a short RRTA bus ride away. And knowledge of how to use our public transportation can lead to new job opportunities.”

Rivera said that she hopes her Bus It to Market excursions will show residents that RRTA buses are a fast, reliable, and inexpensive way to get to Lancaster and other places in the region.

According to Rivera, Lancaster has unhealthy levels of air pollution. She cited the American Lung Association’s 2025 “State of the Air” report, which listed the Lancaster metro area as rejoining the worst 25 cities in the U.S., at 22nd most polluted in the nation and second worst in the Mid-Atlantic for daily particle pollution. The Lancaster area’s year-round pollution went from bad to worse, from 57th to 45th worst in the nation for year-round pollution and dropped from a B grade for ozone in last year’s report to a C grade.

“Air pollution is damaging our health, especially impacting people with respiratory problems and seniors,” Rivera said. “Regularly taking the bus can help reduce air pollution in our area. Congested roadways, limited street parking, the high cost of parking -- who needs any of it when you can take the bus?”

Trip attendees will join Rivera at 9:15 a.m. on June 27 at the Stubby's Bar and Grille parking lot, 701 Olde Hickory Road at Oregon Pike, in Manheim Township. Together, they will walk across the street to Valleybrook Estates to the bus shelter.

If adult attendees do not have an RRTA Go Mobile app or a reusable Go Mobile Smart Card, they will need exact change for the ride to and from Lancaster.

Fare costs:

• Adult fare: $1.80
• K–12 student fare: $1.00
• Half Fare Program for persons with disabilities: $0.90

Adults 65 or older can ride for free if they have a senior ID card. If they do not have one, they can apply here: Senior Citizens Free Ride Program – Red Rose Transit Authority. For people with disabilities, the fare is $0.90.

On the bus ride, an RRTA representative will provide valuable information about the bus transportation system. On arrival, the group will walk to Central Market, spend some time enjoying the Lancaster downtown shops and cafés, and return to the ChargePoint Charging Station parking lot in Lancaster by 1:20 p.m.

Residents interested in joining “Bus It to Market” should RSVP by emailing reprivera@pahouse.net by June 26. In the email, those interested should note how many people will be joining them for the trip.
