Rep. Hanbidge Announces More Than $800,000 for Traffic Signal Modernization in Lower Gwynedd and Towamencin

State Rep. Liz Hanbidge, D-Montgomery, today announced that more than $800,000 in state funding has been awarded to improve traffic safety in Lower Gwynedd and Towamencin townships through traffic signal modernization projects.

The grants awarded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation include:

  • Lower Gwynedd Township: $311,760 to modernize the traffic signal at the intersection of Bethlehem Pike and Tennis Avenue.
  • Towamencin Township: $489,110 to modernize the traffic signal at the intersection of Valley Forge Road and Allentown Road.

Together, the projects represent an investment of $800,870 in local transportation infrastructure.

"Modern traffic signals do far more than keep vehicles moving. They help prevent crashes, improve pedestrian safety and they help to reduce congestion for everyone who relies on these roads each day," Hanbidge said. "I'm pleased to see this state investment coming back to our communities to make these busy intersections safer and more efficient for residents."

The Green Light-Go Program, administered by PennDOT, provides state funding to municipalities for the operation and maintenance of traffic signals along critical corridors. Eligible projects include traffic signal upgrades, improvements to signal timing, and modernization of outdated equipment to improve efficiency and safety.
