Rep. Friel Otten to host free Paper-Shredding Event

EXTON, Oct. 19 – State Rep. Danielle Friel Otten, D- Chester, will host a free Paper-Only Shred Event from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, at North Brandywine Middle School, 256 Reeceville Road, in West Brandywine Township.

The shred event provides an opportunity for members of the community to safely dispose of documents containing personal information, thereby protecting them from potential identity theft.

"Shred events provide a simple, secure way for people to protect themselves from identity theft while clearing out unwanted documents," Friel Otten said. "I'm always pleased to host events like this that help make life a little easier for residents. Whether it's a desk drawer full of old bank statements, or boxes of paperwork that have been sitting in the garage for years, these events give residents an opportunity to safely dispose of sensitive materials and recycle them responsibly."

Each car will be limited to four file-size boxes at this rain-or-shine, drive-through event. Small paper clips and staples are OK, but please no binder clips, binders, cardboard, X-ray films, or photographs. Drivers are asked to remain in their cars and open their trunk. Staff members and volunteers will unload documents from the car, and papers will be immediately shredded on-site. Bags and boxes will be returned to the car after they are emptied.

The shredding event is for individuals only, not businesses, and is first-come, first served. When the truck is full, the shredding event will end.
