It was a historic week here in the district, as the House convened at Congress Hall for the first time in 39 years.

The ceremonial session commemorated the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, as well as the 250th anniversary of the Pennsylvania Constitution. It was an honor playing host to all of my colleagues, who shared the unique opportunity to reflect on our history and look ahead to our shared future.

While we were meeting inside, more than 80 students from across Pennsylvania participated in The Next 250, a civic education program designed to deepen their understanding of our democracy and our commonwealth’s role in shaping history.

I hope everyone had a great time in our city for this historic experience. I look forward to catching up with everyone again in Harrisburg, as Fall session days will begin at the end of the month.

On this day, 25 years ago, the September 11th attacks changed our city and nation forever. As we commemorate this anniversary, we remember the unimaginable loss we experienced and the inspiring stories of bravery, compassion, unity, and service we witnessed.

This week, state lawmakers met with the Pilots’ Association for the Bay & River Delaware to see its operation firsthand and discuss legislation that would keep our local pilots competitive in a challenging commerce market. Legislation discussed included House Bill 2426, which would increase the draft size of vessels to 29 feet, easing unnecessary restrictions on our pilots.

The Pilots’ Association helps keep us safe, and our local river pilots keep Pennsylvania open for business despite all the rigorous demands of the job. I’m proud that my colleagues are pushing forward meaningful legislation that keeps our rivers moving, and I’m glad they received a guided tour along the Delaware!

It was an exciting day in Harrisburg on Tuesday, as I was able to meet my new House colleague, Rep. Brandon Dukes! Brandon won a special election in Butler County in August, making it 103 Democrats in the House, and I was there to see him officially sworn in in the House Chamber. I know he’ll bring hard work, dedication and infectious energy to Harrisburg; and I look forward to working with him on meaningful legislation!

The 100-700 blocks of South Street will be open on Saturday, September 26 from 12-7 p.m. for the 2026 South Street Fall Fest! Every block will have different activities, including Oktoberfest, a Renn Faire, a skate park and more. You can visit the South Street District website for more information.

My fall Senior Fair is scheduled for Friday, October 23rd from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Holy Name Church, bringing resources to seniors and caregivers like information on healthcare, volunteer opportunities, prescription drug plans, preventing identity theft and more.
