Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta releases a statement on officer-involved shooting in Richard Allen neighborhood

PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 12 – State Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta, D-Phila., released the following statement in response to the early morning shooting of multiple swat officers in Richard Allen:

“Just yesterday at a Roxborough news conference I thanked gathered law enforcement for the critical work they do. This morning’s shooting shows how dangerous that work can be as well. My deepest prayers are with the officers who were hurt and their families.

“Every time a member of law enforcement puts on their uniform as my aunt used to do, they take on huge risks to try and keep us all safe. This gun crime crisis is a scourge on our city and I know has shaken the Richard Allen community to its foundations. This violence must end!!”

Kenyatta previously laid out a three-point plan to address the gun crime crisis:

  1. Declaring a state of emergency on gun violence.
  2. Passing stalled gun safety legislation.
  3. Addressing root causes of violence and investing in the youth.
