Harrisburg area lawmakers release statement on death of Justin Johnson

HARRISBURG, May 1 -- State Reps. Justin Fleming, D-Dauphin, Dave Madsen, D-Dauphin, and Patty Kim, D-Dauphin/Cumberland, released the following statement regarding the death of Justin Johnson, a 10th-grade student at Central Dauphin High School.
“Last evening, members of our community gathered to honor the memory of Justin Johnson. The event, held on what would have been Justin's 17th birthday, brought together students, parents, and community leaders to celebrate his legacy and advocate for positive change.
"We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who joined in remembering Justin and supporting one another during this difficult time. Your presence underscores the strength and unity of our community.
“Amid ongoing investigations by local authorities, the school district, and an independent law firm retained by Justin’s family, community leaders are calling for calm and patience. We ask for your support in fostering a peaceful environment as we work toward understanding these incidents fully.
“Given recent increases in hate speech and hate crimes across Pennsylvania and nationwide, it is imperative that we reflect on the influence our words and actions have on our children and those around us, and we encourage every household to consider the impact of their language and rhetoric.
“We urge anyone with information regarding the recent incidents to contact the Lower Paxton Police Department. For additional questions or concerns, please reach out to our offices at any time.
