Kortz: Construction on Streets Run Road Bridge expected to begin in June

HARRISBURG, May 24 – State Rep. Bill Kortz, D-Allegheny, is alerting motorists that construction on the Streets Run Road Bridge at the intersection of Doyle Road (bridge closest to Thee Olde Place Inn) is anticipated to begin in early June and continue throughout the summer.

“In order to remove the bridge from Allegheny County’s structurally deficit bridge list, this replacement has to occur,” Kortz said. “While construction is underway, I would like to remind drivers to leave home a little earlier to get to their destination and to drive cautiously along the detour route.”

During construction, drivers will be directed to the detour route along Clairton Boulevard/Saw Mill Run Boulevard (Route 51), Lebanon Church Road (Route 2040) and Route 885 (Lebanon Road). The project is expected to be completed by Sept. 1.

This project follows the completion of the Lutz Hollow Bridge located at the intersection of Lutz Hollow Road and Streets Run Road and traffic will resume on that end. Access to the City of Pittsburgh can be made by traveling the route of Delwar Road to Streets Run Road.

The schedule may change in the event of unfavorable weather or unforeseen activities. The project is part of the Pennsylvania’s Department of Transportation’s Rapid Bridge Replacement Program.

The bridge is among 558 bridges being redone under the state’s $899 million Rapid Bridge Replacement Project that is taking place over a three-year period.
