Kosierowski: $42,001 in school safety grants awarded to two Lackawanna County school districts
HARRISBURG, Oct. 17 – The Riverside School District and Old Forge School District will receive a combined $42,001 in school safety grants, state Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski, D-Lackawanna, announced today.
Kosierowski said the funding will enable the school districts to prevent and reduce violent incidents by purchasing safety and security-related equipment and to provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
“Our children deserve to learn and grow in safe environments and providing funding for school safety is one of the most vital investments we can make,” Kosierowski said. “This funding will be a big help to ensure the students, faculty and staff in our schools are safe and secure.”
Riverside School District is awarded $22,003 in the form of a 2019-20 equipment grant. Old Forge School District is awarded $19,998 in the form of a 2019-20 program grant.
This funding is part of the $7.3 million in School Safety Grants the Pennsylvania Department of Education is awarding to both public and non-public school districts throughout the commonwealth.
