Krueger: We need to address climate change
HARRISBURG, March 27 – After a meeting of the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee today, state Rep. Leanne Krueger, D-Delaware, voiced her concern about a guest invited to give testimony.
Gregory Wrightstone, a Pittsburgh geologist and self-proclaimed climate change “skeptic,” was invited by Chairman Daryl Metcalfe to "present his research on climate science and factually debunking some of the modern myths surrounding the 'climate change' discussion,” [SIC] according to the hearing notice.
“Climate change is a very real and very pressing problem here in Pennsylvania,” said Krueger following the meeting. “Severe weather events have already begun to affect us, and our agriculture and winter tourism industries are at risk. The scientific community overwhelmingly agrees that human activity is causing the earth’s climate to warm.
“Yet, instead of taking action to address this, the majority chairman created an entire hearing so a climate change denier could give his testimony. We need to stop having discussions about whether climate change is real and start drafting a plan to address it. The people of Pennsylvania are trusting us to take action.”
During the meeting, Krueger pointed out that Wrightstone’s book is self-published and not peer-reviewed.
