House resolution honors philanthropist Hal Taussig

HARRISBURG, April 11 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, was joined by fellow Delaware County representatives to honor the life of Delaware County resident Hal Taussig today.

"Hal was an inspiring yet humble entrepreneur and philanthropist who inspired many in the socially responsible business movement," Krueger-Braneky said. "Hal used the profits from Untours, a travel business he founded, to offer what he called a hand up and not a hand out to low-income communities. Over the course of his life Hal made over $8 million in loans to local businesses to help sustainable ideas that benefit the community get off the ground. Hal also helped to launch the Fair Trade movement in the US and Untours became the first benefit corporation in the world."

Taussig’s nephew and employees were on hand today to receive a citation and be honored on the House floor.

"Hal embodied what we should all hope to embody – a desire to leave the world better than he found it," Krueger-Braneky said. "I believe he accomplished that, and I know his memory will live on for years to come through his foundation and the unbelievably positive work they do for the community both in Delaware County and throughout the world."
