Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program deadline approaching

SWARTHMORE, Dec. 14 – State Rep. Leanne Krueger-Braneky, D-Delaware, reminded constituents today that the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program deadline to apply for a rebate on property taxes or rent paid in 2015 is approaching on Dec. 31.

Pennsylvanians 65 or older, widows and widowers 50 or older, and people with disabilities 18 or older qualify for the benefits under the program. The income limit is $35,000 a year for homeowners and $15,000 annually for renters. Half of Social Security income and any COLAs are excluded. The maximum standard rebate is $650, but supplemental rebates can boost the amount up to $975.

“The holiday season is a busy time for everyone, and it’s easy to overlook something like the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program when we’re thinking about visiting family and friends,” Krueger-Braneky said. “However I would encourage any resident who thinks they may qualify to contact my office and let us help you fill out your application. A few minutes of your time could end up saving you hundreds of dollars.”

Krueger-Braneky’s office is located at 701 E. MacDade Blvd. in Folsom. Constituents can also contact the office at (610) 534-6880 for help with their application.

The Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program is one of five programs supported by the Pennsylvania Lottery. Since the program’s 1971 inception, older and disabled adults have received more than $5.6 billion in property tax and rent relief. The expanded portion of the rebate program is paid for with revenue from slots gaming.
