HOUSE GAME & FISHERIES COMMITTEE TOUR OF ERIE
As the chair of the House Game & Fisheries Committee, I joined my colleagues for a joint session with the Tourism, Recreation & Economic Development Committee in Erie. The hearing focused on the economic and recreational impact of fishing and boating on Lake Erie, which are extremely important to the region’s economy.
The hearing was held at the Erie Maritime Museum, and once it wrapped up, we had the privilege of touring the U.S. Brig Niagara, which was in port just outside.
Law enforcement officers with the Fish and Boat Commission then gave our committee a tour of several of their boats and took us out onto Lake Erie. It was a great learning opportunity! Some of us even did a little fishing on the lake while we were out there.
Serving as the chair of the committee has given me a much deeper appreciation for our hunters and anglers. Pennsylvania’s hunting and fishing traditions run deep and must be preserved, which is why I was glad the House passed my legislation to bring trapping and hunting programs into our schools. I hope the Senate takes up the legislation so we can pass these traditions on to future generations.
