Longietti hosts 2018 class 1A state high school football champs
HARRISBURG, Jan. 29 – State Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer, hosted the Farrell Steelers High School Football Team Monday at the state Capitol to celebrate the team’s 2018 class 1A state football championship.
Longietti presented a citation to the team and noted that their victory marked a first for the county.
“Under the direction of Coach Jarrett Samuels, this incredibly talented group of young men captured the crown with a 55-20 victory over Lackawanna Trail,” Longietti said. “They also managed to do something no football team in Mercer County has done: they went undefeated on their path to the title. I’m incredibly proud of them, and I’d like to take this time to honor their achievement.”
Longietti said the Steelers’ undefeated victory was especially notable because it came during the 100-year anniversary of the school’s football program. The team previously won state championships in 1995 and 1996.
