Longietti: $820,441 grant will fund Sharon road maintenance
HARRISBURG, Feb. 8 – State Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer, announced today the awarding of $820,441 in PennDOT grant money for repairs and improvements to Sharon roads.
Longietti said the grant from the Multimodal Transportation Fund will finance much-needed repairs and renovations to 13 roads. The project will include “mill and overlay” work—a process that involves milling the road surface and laying new asphalt—and will include work to curbs and ramps.
“The funding clears the way for vital improvements without requiring local taxpayers to shoulder the burden,” Longietti said. “Sharon is a core community, and its roads are used by residents across the Shenango Valley to access health services, businesses, the community library and the Penn State Shenango branch campus. This grant will significantly improve road safety and efficiency for these citizens.”
PennDOT grants through the Multimodal Transportation Fund benefit a wide range of projects, from sidewalks and pedestrian safety enhancements to repair and renovation of roadways to investments that benefit the state’s public transit systems.
