Longietti: Persian Gulf veterans bonus program accepting applications through Aug. 31
GREENVILLE, March 1 – State Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer, is reminding eligible veterans that they have six months to apply for a maximum $525 under the state’s Persian Gulf Conflict Veterans Bonus program.
Longietti said veterans who served on active duty in the Persian Gulf Theater of Operations from Aug. 2, 1990 to Aug. 31, 1991 are eligible. He added that an additional $5,000 is available for surviving family of personnel whose death was related to illness or injury received in the line of duty in Operations Desert Shield or Desert Storm, and that service members declared prisoners of war may also be eligible for $5,000.
“I urge every veteran who meets the qualifications to apply, and the same goes for any surviving family member,” Longietti said. “Even though the deadline is six months away, please don’t wait until the last minute if you can avoid that. If you have any questions, my offices are available to help.”
To be eligible for the bonus, a service member must have:
Served with the U.S. Armed Forces, a reserve component of the U.S. Armed Forces or the Pennsylvania National Guard
