Longietti named co-chair of Rare Disease Caucus
Feb. 27 -- State Rep. Mark Longietti, D-Mercer, has been named co-chair of Pennsylvania's Rare Disease Caucus for the 2019-20 Legislative Session. He will serve with Sens. Judy Ward (R-Blair/Cumberland/Franklin/Fulton/Huntingdon) and John Blake (D-Lackawanna/Luzerne/Monroe).
“It’s an honor to help guide the state’s efforts in such an important area,” Longietti said. “More than one million Pennsylvanians live with a rare disease, and more than half of these patients are children. The battle is made more difficult by the fact that some of these diseases aren’t being adequately studied by medical researchers. One of our aims on the caucus will be to help raise public awareness about these diseases to spur research. Another will be to advocate behalf of residents living with these diseases and to connect them with available resources.”
