Madden: $100,000 in Safe Schools grants awarded
HARRISBURG, Oct. 17 – State Rep. Maureen Madden said she is pleased that nearly $100,000 in Safe Schools Targeted Grants today were announced for schools in her legislative district.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education awards the competitive grants to prevent and reduce violent incidents, to purchase safety and security-related equipment and to provide for training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
“It’s unfortunate that we live in a society where grant funding is needed for these types of programs and personnel, but as such, I am glad to see some of the money being used to protect students in our local schools,” said Madden, D-Monroe.
Local recipients include:
- Pocono Mountain School District, $60,000 for school resource officers.
- East Stroudsburg Area School District, $15,150 for programs.
- Colonial Intermediate Unit 20 on behalf of Notre Dame Junior Senior High School, $24,548 for equipment.
