Hanbidge, Malagari, and Collett to host LIHEAP “Home Heating Workshop” next Thursday

BLUE BELL, Jan. 17 – State Reps. Liz Hanbidge and Steve Malagari, both D-Montgomery, along with state Sen. Maria Collett, D-Montgomery/Bucks, will host a “Home Heating Workshop” from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 in the North Wales Borough Hall, 300 School St., North Wales.

The workshop is open to the public and will include representatives from the PA Department of Human Services who will discuss Universal Service Programs such as the Customer Assistance Program, LIHEAP grants, the CARES program, Smart Comfort, and the Dollar Energy Fund.

“I’m excited to partner with my fellow newly-elected officials and the DHS to offer this workshop to ensure all Montgomery County residents are able to stay warm this winter without sacrificing their budget,” Hanbidge said. “Pennsylvania offers many affordable and excellent services that can improve the health and safety of our families, and it’s important that we, as elected officials, inform our communities about how we can make government work for us.”

Staff will also be on hand to assist with registering for LIHEAP.

“With the height of the winter season approaching, it is crucial that our residents are able to stay warm,” Malagari said. “I am glad that along with my colleagues, we will help create awareness of the LIHEAP program and help to provide a resource for those struggling to heat their homes.”

LIHEAP offers cash grants of $200 to $1,000 that are sent directly to the utility company to meet heating costs for eligible households, and crisis benefits of up to $600 for households in immediate danger of being without heat. These are grants and do not have to be repaid.

“With so many families and seniors stretched thin these days, I'm glad to be partnering with Representatives Hanbidge and Malagari to bring more awareness to some of the services like LIHEAP our offices can assist with,” Collett said. “This is also a great time to show our constituents that their legislators are not only here, but are excited to be working together on their behalf.”
