Malagari announces school safety grants

HARRISBURG, May 1 – State Rep. Steve Malagari announced that school safety grants were awarded to the Souderton and North Penn school districts.

The School Safety and Security Committee, part of the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, awarded the grants on Tuesday. The funds were included in the 2018-19 budget.

“Students and teachers should be focused on learning when they’re at school, not worrying about their safety,” said Malagari, D-Montgomery. “I’m glad the state is investing in our children, and I applaud these schools for taking steps to enhance safety and security.”

Souderton Area School District was awarded $74,975. The district sought funds in the categories of safety and emergency plans; specialized staff and student training programs; and cost associated with school resource or police officers.

North Penn School District was awarded $289,488. The district sought funds in the categories of security planning and technology; and student, staff and visitor identification systems.
