Matzie: Nearly $40,000 in grants to fund safety equipment for area schools
ALIQUIPPA, Oct. 18 – Two state grants totaling $39,486 will fund the purchase of safety equipment for Quaker Valley School District and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School, announced state Rep. Rob Matzie, D-Beaver/Allegheny.
Matzie said the grants include $24,366 to Quaker Valley School District and $15,120 to Our Lady of Fatima Catholic School.
“Making sure our students are safe – and feel safe – is a huge priority,” Matzie said. “Kids need a secure, supportive atmosphere in order to learn. The funding announced today will enable our schools to address any safety-related needs they have identified so that our kids can learn in the safe, carefree environment they deserve.”
The grant is part of a package of $7.2 million in competitive 2019-20 Safe Schools Targeted Grants from the state Department of Education.
The funding – awarded to both public and non-public schools throughout the commonwealth – is designed to help schools prevent or curb violence, purchase safety and security-related equipment, and provide for the training and compensation of school resource and police officers.
