AMBRIDGE, Feb. 13 – Beaver County is one step closer to having a new, state-of-the-art indoor track and field facility for spectator sports, thanks to new funding of $175,000, state Rep. Rob Matzie announced today.
Matzie, who is chairman of the House Majority Caucus, said the funding to Beaver County’s M7 Sports Inc., located in Hopewell Township, will support a major expansion project to allow the venue to host larger spectator events at all levels.
“This is big news for the region,” Matzie said. “Having the ability to host championships and other spectator events will be a game-changer for Beaver County because it’s going to open doors to new entertainment and recreational opportunities – and along with those, new visitors, new economic activity and a greater boost for local businesses.”
In addition to the funding to M7 Sports, Matzie said that a second grant of $120,000 would allow Visit Pittsburgh in neighboring Allegheny County to construct additional facility installations to support the city’s bid to host the Rugby World Cup in 2031 and 2033.
The funding was awarded through the Department of Community and Economic Development under the Sports Marketing and Tourism Program, which was created to attract high-quality, amateur, and professional sporting and e-sports?events to Pennsylvania.
