Mayes announces over $1.4 million for improvement projects

Gaming funds support ADA upgrades, affordable housing

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 3 – Rep. La’Tasha D. Mayes today announced more than $1.4 million in state grant money has been awarded to fund local development projects.

“It’s vital that we continue investing state dollars in areas like affordable housing and accessibility,” said Mayes. “I’m proud to have worked with my House and Senate colleagues to bring this money back to Allegheny County and am eager to see these projects come to fruition and improve the lives of our community members.”

Mayes said the following awards benefitting the 24th Legislative District were secured in collaboration with other Democratic lawmakers:

  • $500,000 to Zoological Society of Pittsburgh for the replacement of two HVAC systems in the aquarium, delivered in partnership with Sen. Lindsey Williams.
  • $325,000 to Pittsburgh Housing Development Corp. to support construction of two single family for-sale housing units in Larimer, delivered in partnership with Sen. Williams.
  • $250,000 to Tamion Enterprises for road paving, landscaping, cleanup, and lighting at the East Hills Drive Gateway project, delivered in partnership with Sen. Jay Costa and Rep. Joe McAndrew.
  • $150,000 to WQED Multimedia for the purchase of film equipment, programming supplies, and materials at the Student Film Academy, delivered in partnership with Sen. Costa and Rep. Abigail Salisbury.
  • $110,000 to Rodef Shalom Congregation to replace lighting fixtures, delivered in partnership with Sen. Costa and Rep. Dan Frankel.
  • $70,000 to Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy to make improvements in the Flagstaff Hill area of Schenley Park including ADA accessible pathways, delivered in partnership with Sen. Costa and Reps. Aerion Abney and Frankel.
  • $50,000 to Primary Care Health Services Inc. to support construction of the Wilford A. Payne Medical Center, delivered in partnership with Sen. Costa and Rep. Salisbury.

The grants are sourced from the Gaming Economic Development Tourism Fund, which is overseen by the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County and the state Commonwealth Financing Authority and provides financial assistance to entities to facilitate economic development projects in Allegheny County.
