My PPS bill; Crypto Anti-Corruption bill pass the House!

This week, I joined my House Democratic colleagues in a push to strengthen ethics and accountability in state government.

As new technologies emerge, our laws need to keep up. That’s why I co-sponsored House Bill 2037, which would prohibit public officials and their immediate family members from creating or promoting cryptocurrencies in which they have a financial interest while serving in office.

Pennsylvanians deserve to know their elected officials are making decisions based on what’s best for the people they serve – not their own financial interests. Good government starts with public trust, and that means keeping our ethics laws up to date.

June also ended on a high note, with my third bill passing the House!

House Bill 2455 would give principals, assistant principals and other administrators in Pittsburgh Public Schools the right to collectively bargain. These school leaders play a critical role in supporting students, teachers, and families; and they deserve a voice when it comes to the conditions that affect their ability to do that work.

I’m also grateful for the bipartisan support my colleagues have shown for House Bills 2550 and 2473, which also passed the House this month. Whether it’s supporting our schools, helping small businesses provide health insurance, or making government more accountable, I’m focused on practical solutions that can make a real difference for Pennsylvanians.

Now it’s the Senate’s turn. I look forward to seeing these bills move forward for the benefit of communities across the Commonwealth.

In The Community

It was a busy week here in the district too! My staff and I had a great time connecting with neighbors and taking part in some of the events that make our communities so special.

On Saturday, I was honored to help cut the ribbon on a new bike repair station and bike racks at the Mt. Lebanon Recreation Center. Thank you to Move Lebo for bringing this project to life and for promoting safe, accessible ways for people to get around town while strengthening connections throughout our community.

On Sunday, Dormont Pride was the place to be! It was a day full of community, connection and celebration that reminded me once again why I'm so proud to call Dormont home. My thanks to the volunteers, organizers, local officials and everyone who helped create such a welcoming and inclusive event.

The weekend wrapped up at Baldwin Township Community Day, where my staff and I enjoyed meeting residents, and answering questions at our information table -- I even got to call the 50/50 raffle! Thank you to the township staff, commissioners, police officers, public works crews, volunteers and everyone else who worked so hard to make the day a success.

Happy Independence Day!

I hope everyone has a wonderful Independence Day weekend! There are so many ways to celebrate America’s 250th birthday in the district!

The annual Dormont Day takes place all Saturday long at the Dormont Pool Parking Lot, with a fireworks show at 9:35 p.m., along with performances by the Gold Mountain Music All Star Band and Raised by Giants. For more information, visit the Borough of Dormont website.

Mt. Lebanon’s celebration runs from 12 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Main Park, including a 9:30 p.m. fireworks show preceded by a performance by My So-Called 90s Band! Visit the Mt. Lebanon website for more.

Upper St. Clair and our neighbors in South Fayette are teaming up to host a fireworks display Saturday at 9:30 p.m., with fireworks launching from nearby Fairview Park.

Whether you’re celebrating outside with fireworks or indoors with family and friends; have a safe and exciting weekend celebrating America.
