McAndrew joins Allegheny County lawmakers to urge resolution to Forbes Road CTC teachers’ contract

PENN HILLS, Oct. 30 – State Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Allegheny, is urging school districts that send students to Forbes Road Career and Technology Center to resolve the current teachers’ contract dispute.

McAndrew said that negotiations have continued well beyond the June 30 expiration of the previous agreement. He added that the lack of a contract, coupled with low wages, has led to 20% of Forbes Road CTC educators leaving since the end of last school year.

“Forbes Road CTC has a great track record of preparing students for good jobs after high school,” McAndrew said. “Recruiting and retaining talented teachers is essential to keeping the school’s programs highly skilled and competitive. We can’t let this dispute continue.”

McAndrew has joined state Reps. Brandon Markosek, Mandy Steele and Abigail Salisbury, all D-Allegheny, in a letter asking districts to come to the table with Forbes CTC teachers and move forward with a plan to settle the contract dispute. The full letter is available here.
