McCarter appointed to House Appropriations Committee

HARRISBURG, Jan. 28 – State Rep. Steve McCarter today announced he was assigned to the powerful House Appropriations Committee, in addition to other influential committees.

McCarter was also reassigned to the Education and Aging and Older Adult Services committees and is chairman of the bipartisan, bicameral Climate Caucus.

The House Appropriations Committee is responsible for reviewing bills that regulate state spending.

“The Appropriations Committee directs how we invest in our future, and I look forward to giving Southeastern Pennsylvania a greater voice in that process,” said McCarter, D-Montgomery. “Through these committee assignments, I will also continue my strong advocacy for excellence in public education and for programs that benefit senior citizens – two of the cornerstones of my work in Harrisburg since I was first elected in 2013.”

The Education Committee reviews bills related to education funding as well as bills related to the Department of Education and other agencies. McCarter is chairman of the Subcommittee on Basic Education.

The Aging and Older Adult Services Committee works with the Department of Aging and reviews bills that would affect senior citizens. And the Climate Caucus addresses all manner of issues relating to climate change in Pennsylvania, including jobs, industry, manufacturing, clean air and clean water.
