McCarter named to House Education Committee

HARRISBURG, May 15 – State Rep. Steve McCarter, D-Montgomery, was appointed to the House Education Committee on Wednesday.

"The Pennsylvania Constitution states that one of the legislature’s main responsibilities is to properly fund and maintain a proper public school system for the benefit of the Commonwealth, and I’m honored to help achieve that goal," McCarter said. "As a former educator, I spent 35 years working to educate young adults and I’m excited to continue that passion. I look forward to working with the Republican and Democratic chairmen, Rep. Saylor and Rep. Roebuck, in finding ways to properly fund and improve Pennsylvania’s public education system."

The Education Committee has oversight of all aspects of education in Pennsylvania, including the Department of Education, the State Board of Education, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, the Public School Employees' Retirement System, and several boards and authorities related to public and private education as well as buildings and facilities.

McCarter also sits on several other House committees, including Commerce, Environmental Resources and Energy, Children and Youth, State Government, and Democratic Policy.
