Upcoming Community Events

I want to alert you about four upcoming events in the community—opportunities for you to receive a naloxone kit for free, turn in any guns you want to get rid of, learn more about the 2020 U.S. Census and shred those important documents you’ve set aside for special disposal.
 
Naloxone Distribution and Education Event: Tuesday, September 17 from 6 PM to 8 PM
 
The Montgomery County Department of Health & Human Services Offices of Drug & Alcohol and Public Health are sponsoring free quarterly Naloxone distribution events—they’re giving out one Naloxone kit per family for free. The first event is from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, September 17 at St. Anthony’s of Padua Parish, 259 Forest Avenue, Ambler, PA 19002. Registration is required. Click here to register.
 
Gun Turn-In Event: Wednesday, September 18 from 4 PM to 8 PM Saturday, September 21 from 9 AM to 1 PM
                                               
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is sponsoring free gun turn-in events on Wednesday, September 18 and Saturday, September 21 at the Jenkintown Police Department, 700 Summit Avenue, Jenkintown, PA 19046.
 
All unloaded firearms, including handguns, rifles and shotguns, are accepted; no bullets or magazines/clips accepted. All guns that are collected will be destroyed.
 
2020 U.S. Census Briefings

Cheltenham Township, in partnership with the U.S. Census Bureau, will be holding three 2020 Census briefings to communicate the importance of the census (an accurate count has real-word impacts including planning for roads, schools and hospitals) and to ensure that everyone is counted.

Briefings will be held:

Tuesday, September 24 at 7 PM at Rowland Community Center
Thursday, September 26 at 7 PM at La Mott Community Center
Thursday, October 10 at 7 PM at Glenside Hall

 
Anyone requiring a special accommodation to participate in the meetings should notify the Cheltenham Township Public Information Officer at (215) 887-6200 ext. 230 at least five days prior to the meeting.
 
Shredding Event: Sunday, October 5 from 10 AM to 2 PM
 

The Cheltenham Volunteer Fire Company’s 6th Annual Paper Shredding Event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 30 in Cheltenham.
 
Common types of unwanted items that should be shredded include credit card statements, credit card applications, bank statements, canceled checks, income tax info, insurance records and retirement or pension fund information. No need to remove staples, paper clips, or hanging file folders.
