Options for ordering your groceries online

Dear Friends,

Late last week, the Wolf Administration issued guidelines to ensure the health and safety both of grocery store shoppers and staff during the current COVID-19 pandemic. For more information, see Grocery and Convenience Store Procedures and Sanitization and Diagnosed Employee Procedures.

But for those interested in skipping the in-store experience altogether? Here are several options for ordering your groceries online:

Ashley Foods
www.ashleyfoods.com

Order meats and cheeses online for delivery. Call (215) 426-4103.

Giant
www.peapod.com/home

Warnings on this site state that it is low on stock but still active. Yet another alternative: Giant recently instituted an ages 60+ hour every morning for a less crowded in-store shopping experience. Every day from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m., Giant stores are open only to those who are 60 and older.

Instacart
www.instacart.com

Many of our local stores, including Acme, Aldi, ShopRite and The Fresh Grocer, do not have an in-house delivery option. But they do offer Instacart, a service that matches customers with personal shoppers who will shop for you and deliver your groceries.

Go to the Instacart website and type in your Zip code; the stores from which you can order will pop up. Once you choose a store, you can start shopping. The prices you see on the Instacart platform are set by the retailer. You can view individual pricing policies for each retailer by clicking on the “View Pricing Policy” link at the top of the retailer’s storefront on both the website and in the Instacart app.

Philly Foodworks
Phillyfoodworks.com

This is a subscription delivery service for local foods, including options for weekly/biweekly/monthly farm share boxes and supplemental subscriptions. You can choose home delivery or delivery to one of Philly Foodworks’ community pick-up locations. Your delivery or pick-up day will be determined by the delivery/pick-up site you choose.

Whole Foods/Amazon
www.wholefoodsmarket.com/grocery-delivery-and-pickup

Fill your virtual cart with groceries and choose the home delivery window that works for you.

UPDATE: Constituent feedback has helped us add more options (see below), plus this addendum:

We know that many of these services, some of which were recommended by constituents, are experiencing significant delays. But we are hoping that, as we all become more accustomed to this new normal, more delivery times will open up.

We have learned that Costco has reserved 8 to 9 a.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for senior shoppers, and Acme has senior hours from 7 to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday.

Imperfect Foods
www.imperfectfoods.com

You choose between organic or conventional produce and then add grocery items you want delivered on a weekly basis. The site warns: Due to an unprecedented spike in demand, inventory may be limited, and delivery days may be limited.

Lancaster Fresh Farm Co-op
lancasterfarmfresh.com

Type in your zip code for multiple pick-up locations in our area.

Reading Terminal Market
readingterminalmarket.org/merchant-tag/delivery

Go to the website and click on “Shop Online.” Delivery is available to locations within 16 miles of the market.

Please stay safe and well, no matter how you choose to shop.

If you have any additional suggestions for shopping for groceries online, please don't hesitate to let me know, and I will update this list on my website.

Sincerely,
