Climate Concerns Must be Taken Seriously

Rep. McCarter supports greenhouse gas reducing legislation

On February 20, I joined Rep. Greg Vitali of Delaware and Montgomery counties at a Capitol press conference to show support for his legislation designed to encourage Pennsylvania to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Our state produces almost one percent of the world’s greenhouse gasses, and this is leading to continuing troubling trends concerning global warming. It’s imperative that we work with the Wolf administration to make reducing Pennsylvania’s carbon footprint a priority.

The legislation introduced today would accomplish three goals – increasing the Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard, permanently funding the Sunshine Solar program and reducing the demand for energy. This is not outlandish legislation. These are modest changes which will go a long way in encouraging a change in how our state consumes energy and how we think about climate change.

I will continue to fight for the health of our environment and keep you updated on these issues.
