McClinton sworn in for 3rd term as state legislator; first as House Democratic Caucus Chair
HARRISBURG, Jan. 1 – State Rep. Joanna E. McClinton, D-Phila./Delaware, was sworn in today at the state Capitol to begin her third term representing the 191st Legislative District.
“I am honored to continue serving and representing my neighbors in the 191st District in the General Assembly,” McClinton said. “I will continue fighting for better public education, fair wages for working people, a more equitable justice system, sustainable environmental policies and earnest and honest approaches to combat the opioid and gun-violence epidemics.”
Her legislative goals mirror the recently unveiled Plan4PA, a comprehensive strategy from the House Democratic Caucus that is focused on putting people first. Major components of the plan include job creation, affordable health care, a fair economy and quality schools.
McClinton was also selected by her peers to serve as the chair of the House Democratic Caucus for the 2019-20 legislative session. McClinton is the first woman and first African American to serve as the Caucus Chair.
“I’m honored by the faith and trust that my Democratic colleagues have placed in me to represent them on the leadership team,” McClinton said. “I’m looking forward to overseeing our caucus discussions and ensuring that Members have the information they need to cast informed votes on the House Floor this Session.”
The Pennsylvania House of Representatives swearing-in ceremony is mandated by the state constitution to convene at noon on the first Tuesday in January. Today marks the start of the 203rd legislative session.
