Rep. McNeill brings home $1 million for industrial site cleanup

CATASAUQUA, Oct. 23 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, has announced that $1 million has been awarded to the borough of Catasauqua for environmental cleanup of the former Crane Iron Works.

“I’ve been working with the Borough of Catasauqua on this project and this will help to move this important development forward. I’m excited for what is planned at this site, which will be a real asset to the residents of Catasauqua,” McNeill said.

The funds will be used for the removal of asbestos-containing material throughout the structures, removal and disposal of all debris within the buildings, and capping the site with imported certified clean fill.

McNeill said the Industrial Sites Reuse Program provides loans and grants for environmental assessments and remediation carried out by eligible applicants who did not cause or contribute to the contamination. The program is designed to foster the cleanup of environmental contamination at industrial sites, thereby bringing blighted land into productive reuse.
