McNeill sponsoring free shredding and electronics recycling event Nov. 16

ALLENTOWN, Oct. 28 – State Rep. Jeanne McNeill, D-Lehigh, will join Fountain Hill and Salisbury Township in sponsoring a free shredding and electronics recycling event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 16 in the parking lot of Truman Elementary School, 1400 Gaskill St., Salisbury Township.

“Shredding is a great way to ensure your personal and financial documents are safely and securely disposed of to prevent identity fraud,” McNeill said. “Plus, this year’s event will be a perfect opportunity to safely get rid of your old, unwanted electronics to help ensure harmful chemicals don’t pollute our environment.”

Participants must be a resident of the 133rd District and proof of residency will be required.

Those residents can bring their unwanted electronics, as well as any documents to be shredded to this year’s event. There is no fee for items such as computers, monitors, DVD and video players or gaming systems, but there is a fee for televisions. For TV’s under 40” it is $35, for models over 40”, projection, in wooden cabinets, tubes, or broken TVs it is $55.

There is a limit of ten boxes of documents per vehicle.  

McNeill and her staff will also provide information about state programs such as the Children’s Health Insurance Program, Medicaid, Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program, and info on preventing identity theft from the Attorney General’s Office.
